Beetle Soup

The second book ever that I was asked to illustrate. I illustrated all 128 pages in 6 weeks. My wife Trish was pregnant with our first child and being a dad and present husband was my number one priority. I was working a day job and illustrating Beetle Soup at night. I can’t remember sleeping unless I was on a train, having lunch or between the hours of 3am and 5am.

The size of the book was taken from an old copy of Walter De La Mare’s Peacock Pie that I owned . . . and the title Beetle Soup was taken from a Norman Lindsay poem – It’s worse than weevils.
